I know. Even I have his birthplace as Drum Castle.

But is that right? Drum Castle was given to his family in 1328. That is ELEVEN years AFTER his birth!

Do you have anything which might localize his birth within Aberdeenshire? (As to where the family lived prior to being granted the castle...)

Not really. His father left the family home in Dumfries (according to "Irwins and There Kin) in 1303, to travel with Robert the Bruce. Probably why he was awarded Drum Castle in 1323 (not 1328, I misremembered the year) but still after Sir Alexanders birth.
