Aaron Tullis was born in the State of New Jersey on the 25th of September, 1753 to Moses and Mary Elizabeth VanDyke Tullis. When a little child moved to Berkeley County, VA. After years moved to Redstone, PA, then to Kentucky near Danville, thence to near Lexington, thence to Ohio near Lebanon, Warren County, then to Miami County where he resided for thirty + years.

While in Berkeley County, he enlisted in the Continental Army for one year after the Battle of Bunker Hill. Served in the company commanded by Capt Hugh Stephenson. Released from service on Staten Island. Granted pension of $40 per annum from March 4, 1831, certificate number 22319.

Had nine children with his first wife, Jean. Had one son with second wife, Sarah. No children with third wife, Mary.

The History of Miami County, Ohio Pub 1880 Pg 232: "Aaron Tullis and his sons John, Aaron, William, David, Joel, John T., and Stephen..."

"John T. Tullis was the youngest son of the Tullis family consisting of the father, Aaron Tullis, seven sons and two daughters, all of whom had families and lived and died in Concord Township with the exception of one son (John) who removed to Illinois at an early period and the subject of these...the family were among the first settlers of Concord Township. Most of them have lived to an advanced age--passed three score and ten--leaving a numerous posterity. The subject of this notice is now seventy-four years of age and his recent sketches in the Troy times shows that he still retains a vigorous mind..."
