Abe lived in Springfield, Illinois surrounded by a bevy of close-knit sisters. He never had children. His will left his estate divided in eigths to his surviving six sisters and brother Marshall. Sadie's share was divided in half for Max Sherman and Fran Stiffelman.
He ran a clothing store and employed relatives, including our senior family historian Evelyn Erenske Stoll (b. 1916).
Abe had two girlfriends who had been employees. The first was Frances Siegel.
Bob Cohen recalls the second:
"Millie, a/k/a Tillie, worked in the store with Abe. They were a
twosome, came to our house for dinner often. Abe loved kasha. It was
his hobby to give everyone a nickname. As: Leonard: Bubbala, as his
father Leo called him Bubbe ; MaxSherman: "The boy scout" as Max was a boy scout and the only one in the family who could bake a potato in the ground outdoors. Izzy Sherman called his son Max "Buddie" and so did some others. In the line of
succession from Bubbala and Buddala, I was dubbed Bobala by Abe. Stan
Spiegel became forever "Stanley Marshall" after his enigmatic Uncle and I
still always and repeatedly call him that even today.
