Biography

Abigail's family name and origins are unknown. The first record of Abigail is the probate of the estate of her her first husband Thomas 31 October 1643 when the "goods of Abigail, the late wife of Thomas Sumner, deceased, were appraised."[1] They had no children.

She married second Thomas Elithorp as his second wife by 1643. They had two children:

John Ellithorpe m Mary Todd
Abigail Ellithorpe m Joseph Pickworth
Thomas Ellithorpe died in 1654, and 25 June 1657 at BostonAbigail married a third time to Thomas Jones of Hull as is second wife.[2][3] They removed to Manchester. No record of Abigail's death has been found, but she probably died sometime before 1680. In her husband's estate probated 9 March 1680, his widow is named Elizabeth indicating he had already remarried.[4]

Research notes

There is a slight conflict in the dates with the birth of son John ( 13: 3m: 1643) and the inventory of her first husband. The original record should be consulted to see if she is referred to as Abigail Ellithrope. That Abigail remarried to Thomas Ellithorpe is clearly established in other records,[5] but there is some inconsistency.
