Daughter of Christopher Clarke, gentleman, of Green Springs, Louisa County, Virginia, who died testate with a will dated August 14, 1741, which was recorded by the Louisa County Court on May 28, 1754.
Her father was a surveyor, land speculator, captain of militia, and vestryman for much of his life, until he submitted his resignation to the Fredericksville Vestry on April 16, 1745.
His conversion (or more likely, his return) to the Religious Society of Friends followed shortly thereafter and on November 19, 1748 he was appointed overseer of their Meeting near Sugar Loaf Mountain and began construction of a Meeting House.
