Don't confuse with a different Penelope Johnson / Johnston of The Ultster Plantation/ New Kent/ WV Clarks family who came from New Kent, Va. and go to Edward Johnson of Ulster Plantation. .Penelope (Clark) Johnson (1728-?)

. '=Additional Curator's Note=
[2/16/19 - Added primary source for parent as Edward to add to notes here.] The parents of
Penelope Clark (1684-1760) are NOT KNOWN. As the Curator of this profile, I have removed the unproven parents. There is not a preponderance of evidence to support either claim below.

Many sources cite the parents of Penelope Clark (1684-1760) as John Fairfax Bolling and wife Mary Kennon. Bolling's will named six children, but Penelope is not among those listed. [See Colonel John Fairfax Bolling]. However, she did name one child 'Bowling,' a spelling variant of Bolling, which lends credence to the Bolling theory.

OLD AND DEBUNKED FOR THIS PROFILE IS THIS: The alternate parentage is Edward Johnson, an immigrant born in Scotland, and his wife Elizabeth Walker, who settled in St. Peter's Parish, Kent, Virginia. Two of Penelope's children are named Edward and Elizabeth, which lends credence to this theory. A Penelope is documented as a daughter of Edward & Elizabeth Johnson in the birth records of St. Peter's, New Kent County, Virginia.

Awaiting merge: Same as Penelope Clark. Penelope (Bolling) Clark, wife of Capt. Christopher Clark, is proven on 2 primary sources that she is a Bolling as a birthname sir name.

Born 1664 in Kent County, Virginia Colony, Colonial America Death: August 14, 1760 (76) Louisa County, Province of Virginia, Colonial America

Penelope's parentage is not documented. She has been said to be a Bolling, Johnson, or Massie. It is likely that she was a Johnson, the daughter of Edward whose baptism is recorded at St. Peter's Parish, New Kent. See a discussion of the possibilities at: http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lksstarr/reports/Penelope.txt

Penelope (Johnson) Clark is not to be confused with Penelope Clark who has primary sources as sur named Bolling in 2 places in that Discussion Tab.

Not the child of Mary Bolling who would have been under 10 at Penelope’s birth.

My Christopher Clark born 1681 Somerton,Nansemond,Virginia is the son of Micajah Clark and his wife Sally Moorman. and for many generations back I do have DNA matches with the Clark men and their wives in FTDNA.

Penelope Bolling (c. 1700-1776), married Christopher Clark (not the one from WV with the Johnson family from New Kent) and had a son Bolling Clark, two grandsons Bolling Clark, a grandson Bolling Clark Anthony, and several other descendants named "Bolling," "John Bolling," or, indeed, "Rolfe Bolling."

Biography

Penelope Clark

Penelope married Capt. Christopher Clark. Together they had the following children: John Clark.

Father Most Likely Candidates: RICHARD JOHNSTON. Why? Because he is in the same place at the same time with the spouse of this Penelope Johnston making decisions about what Wirt Johnson Carrington wrote: "Capt Christopher Clark, of the Provincial Army of Virginia was Justice of the first Bench of Magistrates, of Louis Co, Va (Separated from Hanover Co) existing Dec 12-13 1742, formed of Col Roert Lewis, presiding; Capt. Christopher Clark, Ambrose Joshua Smith, Abran Venerables, Richard Johnston, Thomas Meriweather, Robert Harris, John Poindexter, Genry and others. Capt Christopher married Penelope Johnston. (See reference to Richard Johnston, likely brother or father).Ulters Plantation Johnston Group

Spouse: Capt Christopher Clark b. c 1703 of Hanover/Louisa Co, and Provincial Soldier under Capt Lewis and Magistrate Bench for Louisa Co, Christopher Clark married a Penelope (Johnston) Clark and they had John Clark md Ann Rogers in 1748 so not the Penelope Johnston Clark who was b. 1677 in New Kent. Why is his wife not a Massey or a Bollin? Because, Penelope ( Massie / Massey) Clark who was Sarah Penelope Massie born in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, VA, in 1681, same parish where this particular Penelope Johnston Clark was born 3 years later could not be the same person. Also, Sarah Penelope Massie married William Johnson in 1698 in New Kent County, VA and died in childbirth on 8/28/1711. Lastly, this Penelope Johnston of this profile is a different age range with primary sourced line to Micajah Clark family who have the Penelope Bollin. Those are the reasons this Penelope (Johnston) Clark is yet a third Penelope other than the one born to the Ultster Plantation Community in 1684 and the one name Bollin who is alive at a much later date.
