About Agnes Lane

Edits 12/29/2019 Agnes's parents are UNKNOWN. Some unsourced online trees have her father as NN Farnsworth, but if you read below in text that was in profile, this is supposition only because a Farnsworth was mentioned in her husband's will. People researching forget or don't know that his daughter Mary was married to Joseph Farnsworth at the time of the will - not Agnes.

The following text remains unchanged, but most appears to be incorrect or unsupported guesses.

----------------------------

William Lane was born in 1580 in England. About 1603, William married Agnes Farnsworth [SIC: parents unknown] in England. William Lane and Agnes emigrated in 1635 from England on board the Hopewell out of Weymouth. Agnes was probably his second wife, after Mary Killoway, and was the mother of his seven children.

William Lane left a will on 28 February 1650/51 in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He died about 1654 in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.

Older material

William Lane married by 1606 Agnes _____.

  • They had 7 children: Avis LINCOLN, William, Andrew, George, Mary Long Farnsworth Wilcox, Sarah BAKER, Elizabeth Rider.
  • On 20 March 1634/5, "George Land, his servant, 22 years," and "Sarah Land, his kinswoman, 18 years," were included in the passenger list of the Marygould, in the family of Angel Hollard, sailing for New England from Weymouth, Dorsetshire [Hotten 285]. No records appear in New England for these passengers under the surname Land. They are very likely children of William Lane.

Williams Lane's wife is identified as Agnes Farnsworth in some secondary sources [Bassett-Preston 169]. The only justification for this is the provision in William Lane's will that "my loving brethren Joseph Farnworth & John Wiswall" be executors. Since both men are referred to as brothers, this must indicate a church relationship.
