Agnes Reid

AGNES REID

is the daughter of William Reid and his wife, Mary Drew. She was born on 15 June 1834. Her baptismal record reads as follows: "1834. William Reid, Writer, & Mary Drew a law: daur: Agnes. bo: 15th June. Wit: Dr. William Young & John Gibson" [Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Baptismal Register for Glasgow, reference OPR.644.1/33, frame 4712]..

She was at home in Walworth, Walworth County, Wisconsin, with her parents and siblings when the US census of 1850 was enumerated. Her age was returned as fifteen years [United States Census, 1850, index and images, FamilySearch] https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M4DP-N28

In "The Reids of Kittochside (Glasgow, 1945), Herbert Reid asserted that "A family of ten [children] were born to William Reid and Mary Drew, eight in Glasgow, before they emigrated. [He relates information about children John Reid, Ann Hamilton Reid, and Elizabeth Fairlie Reid, then writes] It is strange that nothing seems to be known of the other offspring of William Reid, viz., James Drew Reid, William Reid, Agnes Reid, and Robert Reid." All ten children are noted on Herbert Reid's "Table T" on page 20.
