About Albert Harry Flatt
Albert Harry Flatt, sixth child of Walter B. and Hannah Flatt was born on a cold January day in 1872, on the 28th at the family homestead at Spirit Lake, Iowa. This was the year Richland township was organized and the name "Richland" suggested by W. B. Flatt and adopted by the township trustees. History of Dickenson County - Iowa page 323. It was also the year previous to the first appearance of grasshoppers in Dickinson county. "Allie" lived his entire life here within a mile area and died March 28, 1933 at his home of pneumonia. He married Ida May Mott Oct 6, 1897. They lived 4 years on the old homestead and then bought a farm 1 mile to the north where he lived utill his death. He left his wife and six children. He was a great lover of children but did not live to see a grandchild as the first one was born two years after his death.
Ida May's parents were both interred in Lake View Cemetery. Gideon was born November 13, 1838, married Lydia Caves in 1871 and died February 19, 1906. His parents were Octavious Augustus and Louisa Mott. Octavious was born June 6, 1809 and died August 15, 1879 and served in 16th Reg. WI infantry. They are both buried in Lake View Cemetery, Spirit Lake, IA. Lydia was the daughter of Joel and Eliza (Stratton) Caves. They had 11 children, Lydia was the second, born December 12, 1847 and died October 8, 1917. Joel was born April 2, 1807 and died July 31, 1886. Eliza was born December 10, 1815 and died April 14, 1880.
