Charles P. Flatt

Charles P. Flatt was born on the homestead at Spirit Lake, Iowa, April 12 1870 and died in Pomona, California at the home of his father on Jan 4, 1917 at the age of 47 years. For some unknown reason "Uncle Charlie" never married. He was very kind and gentle in disposition and loved his little nieces very much. He was especially fond of his brother Wallie's twins, Lillie and Lyle. So much so that soon after Wallie took out a homstead in ND he too ventured into the new country and took out a homestead close by his brother's. Here he lived by himself, batching and doing his own cooking except at those times he was at Wallie's playing with the children and enjoying the family life there. Tragically, he inherited the family weakness, tuberculosis, and when it became apparent that he must make a change he went to Pomona, California to be with his father. He lived in a little cottage at the back but grew steadily worse and in a few years passed away.
