Amelia Merle Bryan was born December 21, 1840 in Missouri, daughter of John Wesley Bryan and Verlina (Callaway) Bryan. Around 1845, her family moved to Pin Hook, Texas, which became Paris, Texas. Later, her father ventured to a different site, which would become Dallas, TX, and built a cabin. However, because of the danger of Indian raids, he had his family remain in Paris.
She married Charles F. McCutchan. In 1920, he preceded her in death.
In 1924, she received an invitation from the governor of Kentucky to attend a reunion of Daniel Boone's descendants, but had to decline because of ill health. In a story written from an interview with Ameilia confirming her move from Missouri to Texas when she was five years old, she was quoted to have said about her most prized possession, "an old dress of her mother's...The skirt measures a scant twenty-four inches at the waist, while it is five yards around the bottom and forty-five inches long."
On Sunday, December 23, 1928, Amelia M. (Bryan) McCutchan, age 88, died in Prairie Lea with burial in the Prairie Lea Masonic Cemetery, Prairie Lea, Caldwell County, Texas. She was said to be the last surviving great-granddaughter of Daniel Boone.
