About Andrew Jackson Hamman
"Andrew J. Hammons" appears on the 1850 census as a thirty-one year old living with his wife Jane and his children; Perlina (Purlina), Thomas (William Thomas), and Christianna (Artelia Christina). He was a literate farmer whose "real-estate owned" was worth $800.
Hamman drank his father John's homemade peach brandy in excess. He was partying drunk on a raft on the river in bad weather, and fell into the cold waters; friends celebrating with him at the time pulled him out, but he took pneumonia and died.
Many of Andrews' descendants changed the spelling of HAMMAN to HAMMOND, HAMMONDS, HAMMONS.
Andrew is the only son of John Hamman to remain in Morgan County, Kentucky after the Civil War (Phillip Hamman Family Association).
