Private CL CS, Virginia NC. Elizabeth and Ann Wilson were first cousins of Andrew Taylor. Andrew came to what is now EastTennessee as one of the first settlers in the Watauga Valley of Carter County. He was born about 1730. He was educated at a private school called Timber Ridge near Lexington,Virginia. The school was renamed Liberty Hall and was later to become Washington & Lee University. Andrew married his first cousin,Elizabeth Wilson, in 1756 They had four children: Andrew Jr.,Isaac, Mathew, and Elizabeth. His first wife died in 1770, and he married her sister Ann Wilson. They had three children:Nathaniel b1772, Rebecca b 1773, and Rhoda b 1775. Nathanie later became a General, and fought in the war of 1812. AndrewSr. also fought in the Revolutionary War. He served in the 9thVirginia Regiment under Colonel Burrley at Albemarle Barracks. He furnished supplies to the army. This must have been in the form of rope, clothing sacks, etc. For mention is made numerous times in abstract of the Augusta County Virginia court records of him recieving hemp certificates. He served in the Battle of Kings Mountain, Oct 7, 1780. This battle was said to be the turning point in the war. Andrew Talyor Sr. came with his parents, Isaac and Isabella Taylor from County Atrim, Ireland to Pennsylvania and then on into the Shannandoah Valley of Virginia. Andrew became a landowner also and married his cousin Elizabeth Wilson in Augusta County about 1756. They had four children; Isaac, Andrew Jr., Mathew and Elizabeth. After her death in about 1770 he married her sister Ann and they had three more children: Nathaniel, Rebecca and Rhoda. Soon after 1778 Andrew and his sons moved into Washington County Tennessee where the McNabbs had come several years earlier. Andrew was a man o fresource, owning land and slaves. He served during the American revolution under his son-in-law David McNabb at King's Mountain.Andrew made his will 22 May 1787 in Washington County. Leaving 640 acres to his son Mathew, the land that he lives on to his sons Nathaniel and Andrew. Since Isaac is his oldest son and one of the executor of his will I assume that he had already given him his part. He also gives 5 shillings sterling currency to his beloved son David McNabb, husband of his daughter, Elizabeth, who is another executor. He left a number of slaves and named some of them and gave them to certain children and his wife. Two of Andrew Taylor's great great grandsons, brothers, Alfred Alexander Taylor and Robert Love Taylor became Governors ofTennessee. They ran against each other in 1886 and Robert the Democrat Won. Alfred became a Congressman and also later became Governor of Tennessee.
