Biography

Angus Macbean received a feu of Kinchyle from Sir John Campbell of Calder, the superior, dated Auldearn 18th May, 1610. From this Charter (in the possession of the author) it is observed that Angus is designed[styled] "Angus-Mac-Phaol-vic-William-vic-Gilles," whereby we arrive at the names of Angus' father, Paul; grandfather, William; and great-grandfather, Gillies, who may have lived about 1500. Angus Macbean, the first undoubted heritable proprietor of Kinchyle, in the year 1614 added to his estates by the acquisition of the adjoining kirk lands of Durris, called Daars. In 1626, Angus wadsetted from the Earl of Enziethe lands of Bunachton, also in the paris of Dores. Angus left two sons, John and Paul MacBean.
