About Ann Holt
For those of you who are interested in David Crawford, of New Kent and Hanover Counties, VA., and the deed in which David Crawford gives some land to his minor grandchild, David Holt, I have found some clues. As Crawfords, who can assume that David Holt's mother has to be David Crawford's daughter Sarah, as we have the lineages for all of the rest of his daughters.
I have just learned, from a cousin of mine who is also a descendant of Michale Holt of the Second Colony of Virginia, that her aunt, Maudie Marie Holt (Mrs. Arch Bruce Marshall) had written a book a number of years ago on the Holts and list a grandson of Michale (by the name of John Holt) who married a Sarah, no last name given. So, here is one clue.
On the FTM message boards, there is a conversation on Robert Holt/David Holt/Hanover Co., VA. #4722, which states that "David Holt's parents were John Holt and _________Crawford, possibly Ann. David and MArgaret Dibdall named their first daughter Ann.
John Holt was the grandson of the first Holt into Virginia, Randall Holt of Hog Island, who arrived in 1620. I don't think there is probably any connection between the Robert Holt and the Randall Holt descedants."
From these two sources, there seems to be two different Holt lines in Va very early. I think that our Sarah Crawford probably married a "John Holt" and died very early, as there seems to be other wives for these John Holt's. It is just unclear to me which of the lines are correct for our John Holt, but at least I do think the name of Sarah's husband was indeed John Holt.
We know that the early generations named their children after their ancestors, and the first daughter was usually named for a grandmother. Since David Crawfords mother died before he and his father, John Crawford, came to America (Jamestown) could this be an indication that John's wife was named "Ann". Of could this mean that Sarah named her daugher after her mother, the wife of David. At this time no one seems to have any indication as to who the wife of the first David was........................
It looks like form the message boards that this Holt family also married into the Davies family, and we know that the Davies family also married into the Crawford family in Amherst Co. Va., names into the desdendants of Capt. David Crawford, son of the above David Crawford.
This is just for your consideration as I have not documentated this information, I am relaying others research on to you.
