Bethel Allen (1780-1856) was the Captain of a company of Tennessee Volunteer Mounted Gunmen from Smith County, Coffees' Brigade, Cavalry, and Gun Division, Tennessee Volunteers. They fought in the Battle of New Orleans under General Andrew Jackson.
The history of Callaway County says, "Bethel, Sampson and Thomas Allen, sons of Daniel Allen and Elizabeth Bethel, settled in Callaway County in 1817. Bethel married Elizabeth Read. He and Sampson were soldiers of the War of 1812. All three were listed as voters in the first election in Callaway County."
He later moved to Platte County, Missouri. Atchison County, originally named Allen County, was formed in 1843.
He entered land in Callaway county (1825, 1827, 1828, 1834, 1845), Atchison county (1828, 1833, 1854), Pettis county (1833, 1835, 1840, 1841), Platte county (1846), Andrew county (1848), and Daviess county (1854).
