About Capt. Elias Reigel Light, USA

Captain E. R. Light, of this place, who for several years has been afflicted with a disease of the stomach, this morning breathed his last, aged 46 years. The deceased for many years was tax collector for the Fourth Ward, and also collected the state and county tax. From boyhood up he manifested a deep interest in military matters, served in the 93rd regiment during the war and afterward joined the State militia, holding the post of Quartermaster. The Captain was a member of the Grand Army, Perseverance Fire Company and other organizations. [Lebanon Daily News, May 4, 1881, Page 1]

The funeral of the late Captain E. R. Light took place this afternoon from his late residence on East Cumberland Street. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends, including the Perseverance Fire Company and Grand Army of the Republic, of which organizations he was a devoted member. The body was interred on the Chestnut Street evangelical cemetery. [May 7, 1881, Page 1]

NOTE: Captain Light was originally buried at the Evangelical cemetery in Lebanon, but was reinterred later at the Covenant Greenwood (Ebenezer) Cemetery in Ebenezer.
