Born 1643 in Gotenborg, Sweden, died 1724 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Olof Bergh was born to a cadet branch of a Swedish noble house, and later married to Anna de Coningh (sometimes spelled as De Koningh).

He joined the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC) or Dutch East India Company in 1665, serving in Batavia and Ceylon before arriving at the Cape in 1676, serving under Governor van Goens.

Bergh, Oloff, Kompanjiesamptenaar aan die Kaap. ± 1643: In Gotenburg gebore uit 'n aristokratiese geslag. 1676: Kom na die Kaap in diens van die Verenigde Oos-Indiese Kompanjie. 1682: Onderneem eerste reis na die noorde op soek na die koperberge. 1683: Onderneem tweede reis na die noorde. 1686: Word lid van die Politieke Raad, maar word later in hegtenis gene em weens diefstal van goedere uit 'n Portugese wrak (tydens ekspedisie saam met Isaq Schrijver). 1690: Na meer as drie jaar ge,vangenskap vertrek hy na Ceylon. 1695: Keer terug as kaptein van die Kaapse garni- soen. 1697: Word weer lid van die Politieke Raad. 1709: Word lid van die Raad van Justisie. 1712: Kom in besit van Groot Constantia. 1717: Tree uit die diens van die Kompanjie. 1732: Oorlede in Kaapstad.

According to Die Myburghs van Suid-Afrika, a record in the Deeds Office dated 11 October 1672 (Akeskantoor - T131) shows that Gerrit Janz “d’Boer” van Wynegom lived on the property next to Lammert Lammertz (Lambert Lambertz, SV/PROG). He had bought the property together with the Swede Olof Bergh (Capt. Oloff Martini Bergh, SV/PROG), when both unmarried.

Arrived in Cape Town in 1670. Bergh was a prominent and wealthy member of the Cape community.

In 1686 Bergh was accused of plundering the wreck of the ship Nossa Senhora de los Milagros, a case surrounded by a great deal of mystery. A lieutenant and member of the Political Council at the time, he was imprisoned on Robbeneiland for six months (where 300 years later Nelson Mandela would also be incarcerated) and eventually banished to Ceylon. In 1695 he was forgiven his crimes and restored to full glory in the Cape community as Capitain of the Garrison, member of the Political Council and -- later -- the Council of Justice.

His properties included the farm De Kuilen (today Kuilsriver), a house on the Heerengracht in Cape Town, another house behind it, a house near the Grote Kerk, a house in Table Valley, the farm Constantia and two bungalows in Piquetberg.
