About Captain Charles Boyd

CAPTAIN CHARLES BOYD

Captain in Sir Charles Graham's Regiment of Foot in the Scots Dutch Brigade

Captain Charles Boyd, here treated, is the son of William, Earl of Kilmarnock. His mother's name is not mentioned in his baptismal record, but there seems hardly and doubt that he is the son of Lady Jean Cunningham, who married his father at Edinburgh on 25 April 1661. The Scots Peerage V: 174

Charles Boyd was born before 1 April 1674, the date upon which his baptism was registered at Kirkintilloch in Dunbartonshire, Scotland. His baptismal record reads as follows: "Baptized Chairlles laull sone to the Erle of Kilmarnock w to his baptizem the Rt Honll & potent Erle William Erle of Wigtoun Mr Chairlles Fleming brother german to the said Erle of Wigtoun". His Place of Birth

A date and place of birth cannot be identified for Captain Charles Boyd, here treated. It seems quite likely, though, probable even, that he was born in his father's house at Badenheath in the Dunbartonshire parish of Kirkintilloch. His baptism was certainly registered in the same parish.

Concerning Badeneath

In 1654 William, Earl of Glencairn, inherited the five pound lands of old extent of Badenheath in the barony of Lenzie, including the tower or fortalice of the same name, from his father.
