About Charles J Deardorff

Charles J Deardorff, widely known farmer, lumberman and orchardist, died suddenly at his home near Orrtanna, Friday evening at 10:30 of organic heart trouble. He was aged 52 years, 8 months and 18 days. Mr. Deardorff had been in declining health for several years, but his condition was not regarded as serious at any time. He was a son of the late Peter and of Mrs. Annie Deardorff, and was born in Franklin township, where he lived until 1919 when he moved across the line into Hamiltonban township. He took active part in politics, having been a Republican candidate for a seat in the State Legislature and for the office of county sheriff. He was a frequent visitor in Gettysburg in connection with his interests as a lumberman and orchardist. He is survived by his mother, his wife, who was Miss Margaret Shultz, and the following sons and daughters; Hanson G., Cashtown; Paul K., Orrtanna RD., Mrs. Robert Tipton, Hanover; Misses Blanche J., Cora A., Boid M., Emma C and John, Harry M and Theodore, at hoe. Four sisters; Mrs. Jacob Sharrah, Cashtown; Mrs. William Shindledecker, Orrtanna RD; Mrs. Jacob McDonnell, McKnightstown, and Mrs. Curtis Herring, Orrtanna also survive. He was affiliated with the following orders; Cashtown lodge, 726, P O S of A; Gettysburg lodge, 124, I O O F; Battlefield Council, 717, O of I A; Adams lodge, 325, K of P, Gettysburg lodge, 1562, F O E; Gettysburg lodge, Red Men, and Gettysburg Camp, 112, sons of Veterans. Brief funeral services from his late home Monday afternoon at 1:30 with further services at Flohr’s church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. D T Koser, retired pastor of that charge. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the church.
