Edited by Carol Minshall nee Hampshire, from a conversation between her and her mother, Henrietta Lavina Hampshire nee Greyling (May 2008): "mom was there when she was packing up to leave. Mom never imagined it would be the last time she'd ever see her. Mom was about 14 or 15 at the time (tho' she's not too sure of this) She remembered her gran commenting that "Clara should have been a man". I gather she wasn't too happy about her daughter going off."
