The Welsh Family of Anne Arundel County, Maryland
John Welsh was born in England. By 1670, he married widowed Anne Grosse. Two children were born to them, Sylvester and John Welsh, Jr. She died before 1675, when Major Welsh married Mary Wyatt.
Col. John Welsh II was an iron shipper and merchant in partnership with his cousin, Richard Snowden. His home plantation, "Arnold Gray" was located on the west side of the South River. He served as a Justice and as a County Commissioner of Anne Arundel County from 1726 until his death in 1733.

The second of two children born to Major John & Anne Elisabeth (Widow Grosse) Welsh of England and late of Arnold Gray Plantation in South River, Anne Arundel County, Maryland
John married:
1) Thomasina Hopkins 13 March 1700 at All Hallows Parish, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, daughter of Gerard & Thomasina (Baxter) Hopkins of England and late of South River, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. She died about 1714 in Prince George's County, Maryland.
2) Rachel Hammond in February 1715 in Prince George's County, Maryland.

1) Elisabeth Welsh (1703-1785), m: Thomas Boring.
2) Sarah Welsh (1711-1760), m: Samuel Pierpont Warfield.
3) Sophia Welsh (1713-1734), m: Benjamin Hall.
Children with Rachel:
1) Ann Welsh (1716-1780), m: Captain Nathaniel Hammond.
2) Rachel Welsh (1718-aft 1738)
3) Captain John Welsh (1720-aft 1810), m1: Hannah Hammond, m2: Lucretia Dorsey.

John died at Parrot's Manor, his plantation home in Queen Anne's County, Maryland. Most likely, he and wife Rachel are buried there in a family plot.

"John Welsh, merchant, Ann Arundel County, 4th Feb., 1733; 5th Mch., 1738.
-To son John and hrs., dwelling plantation, "Arnold Grey," "The Neglect" and "Addition to Arnold Gray", cont. together about 400 A.; and personalty at age of 18.
-To sons Thomas and Benjamin and their hrs., 400 A. in two tracts, "The Defiance of Williams and Clark" and "Bacon Hall," Prince George Co.
-To dau. Rachel and hrs., "War of Pinnify," and certain personalty at age of 16 or marriage.
-To son Henry O'Neale Welsh and hrs., 225 A. of "Welsh's Discovery," Prince George County
-To unborn child and hrs., if a son, residue of "Welsh's Discovery." Should unborn child be a girl last mentioned tract to son O'Neale and hrs.
