About Cpl. Oliver H. Blocher (USA)
In 1860, he was a saddler living with his family in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 9" tall and had dark hair and dark eyes. He apparently never married. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Gettysburg November 15, 1861, overstating his age by three years, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg December 14 as a private with Co. K, 101st Pennsylvania Infantry. Despite his youth, he was promoted to corporal, date unknown, and re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer January 1, 1864, at Plymouth, North Carolina. Captured at Plymouth on April 20, 1864, he was incarcerated in the stockade at Andersonville, Georgia, where he remained until paroled December 13, 1864. He eventually returned to duty and honorably discharged with his company June 25, 1865. Contributed by Dennis Brandt (#47232334)
