Gettysburg Times 10/17/1927 James. R. Blocher, 70, for more than 30 years a blacksmith at Bendersville, died Sunday morning at 1:30 o'clock I from the effects of a stroke of paralysis, suffered last Monday. Mr. Blocher also conducted a restaurant and confectionery store at Bendersville for more than 10 years and was widely known in the northern end of the county. Mr. Blocher had been cutting corn in a small field near his home last Monday when he suffered the stroke. Failing to return home at his usual hour for his noon meal, his wife went in search of him and found him prostrate in the field. She summoned neighbors and they carried him to his home. He was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Blocher, formerly of near Biglerville, and lived in that section of the county his entire life. He was the last member of his family, consisting of 12 children. He was a member of the Bendersville lodge of Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Surviving are his widow, Louisa Blocher and one son Benjamin, 2 grandchildren and one great grandson. Funeral services Wednesday morning, meeting at his late home at 10:30 o'clock with further services in the Bendersville Methodist Episcopal church, the Rev. 0. D. Coble officiating. Interment at Bendersville.
