Daniel was the fifth child of Thomas and Mary.

He was a skilled cabinet maker by trade, making finely tuned and closely jointed wood ware.

He served in the Revolutionary War as a Corporal, 10th NC Continental Line.

Daniel and Abigail were members of the old Deerfield Presbyterian Church in Cohansey, NJ. It was erected tin 1771, perhaps at the site of the original church building.

The family moved to the south in 1775. They came by water to Wilmington, NC where they remained a short time. Along with many others, who came about the same time, they made their way forty miles inland to the newly established Dublin County, NC. They selected a small tract of land on the west side of Doctor's Creek and made their home in the forest. They were members of Rockfish Presbyterian Church.

In his will, he left plantation and half the house furniture to David. To his wife, one third of all his cleared ground and also one third of his orchard, furniture and other movables such as cattle, horses, hogs, and sheep. Secondly, he left and bequeathed five shillings apiece to all his sons and daughters that are not mentioned above.
