Daniel Gillett was the son of Moses Gillett 1743 and Rhoda Rowley.

He was born in Kinderhook, Columbia County about 1796. His father Moses was born in Windsor Connecticut, moved to Dutchess county where he married, then moved to Kinderhook, Columia county for the rest of his life.

Daniel married Elizabeth Bachus the daughter of John Bachus and Hannah Steivers in 1816 while still in Columbia County.

The couple moved to Otsego County about 1819. Some of his cousins, children of Abner, brother of Moses, also had moved to Otsego County from Dutchess County.

Daniel stayed a while in Otsego County, then moved to Mendon, Monroe county about 1827, and lived there the rest of his life. Joel Gillett 1764, (son of Abner 1741) the cousin of Daniel (son of Moses Gillett 1743, brother of Abner 1741), also moved to Mendon.

After his first wife Elizabeth died in 1844, Daniel remarried Mrs Excey Carpenter about 1845.

William Gillett 1819, married Mary Jane Eckler, lived in Mendon until 1870 then moved to St Joseph County, Michigan, 3 children.

John Gillett 1820 born Otsego, married Sophia Josephine Hill, moved to Calhoun County, Michigan, 3 children.

Leonard Gillett 1823, married Marie Carr, lived in Mendon until 1860, then moved to Indiana, then by 1870 to Ionia County, Michigan.

Catherine Gillett, 1829-1856, lived in Mendon, married Douglas Peck, 1 child.

Daniel Gillett 1831, married Frances M Wilson, lived in Mendon until 1860, then moved to Indiana, then to St Joseph County, Michigan.

Hannah Mary Gillett, 1833, lived in Mendon, married Laban Atwater Smith, moved to Ionia County, Michigan by 1870.

Mary E Gillett 1837, married Charles Strong.
