About David Lindsay of Dunrod

DAVID LINDSAY OF DUNROD

The identity of David Lindsay of Dunrod here treated is uncertain. According to Lives of the Lindsays, he is the son of John Lindsay and the grandson of Alexander Lindsay of Dunrod Lives I: 435 but this proposition is not supported by evidence. Doctor John Lindsay claimed that David was Alexander's grandson through another son whose name has not been identified. He cited Acts of the Parliament of Scotland [Volume XII. Supplement, p. 33] but it is not yet clear if this evidence provides proof. House of Dunrod, p. 20

It is certainly true that David Lindsay of Dunrod here treated is noticed once as the grandson and heir of Alexander Lindsay of Dunrod, in a charter which belongs to the year 1485, but no mention is made of his father or his mother. RMS: 1621 Of more significance, perhaps, he is more frequently noticed as Alexander's nephew. He is first noticed as the nephew and heir of Alexander Lindsay of Dunrod on 16 August 1477, RMS: 1856 then again on 16 June 1498, RMS: 2421 and finally on 18 April 1502 RMS: 2640
