The Robert Page family lived in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts. from 1637 to 1639, after which they lived at Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire. Robert was to inherit the Page homestead in Acle, Norfolk, England after his mothers death. The fact that Robert Page of Ormesby, 1617, was the son of Robert Page of Acle, 1587, appears to be clear from the fact that the Ormesby man owned a home in Acle in 1617. The inquisitions post mortem, if preserved, would probably give more light on this point.

Robert Page and Lucy Warde were married in Saint Marys the parish church of South Walsham, Norfolk, England. In 1637 he and his family received permission to leave for America.

Robert Page came over with his family to New England in 1637 and was in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts in 1637, Hampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire in 1640 & died there 22 September 1669. He was styled Gentleman; He was a freeman, a builder of a sawmill and a deacon.

The Page family ancestry has been traced back to Robert Page, the son of Henry Page, who died at Acle, Norfolk, England in 1587.

Research at the Norfolk Record Office, City Library, Norwich, England, into the records for the Flegg region has with certainty answered the question of the wife of Robert Page of whom was Lucy Warde, the daughter of Francis and Susanna (Browne) Warde of Filby. She had a younger sister Anne, born about 1622, who emigrated to New England as a servant of the Robert Page family in 1637 and later married Edward Colcord there. Another of the founding fathers of Hampton, New Hampshire was a Thomas Warde, who may have been a brother of Lucy and Anne, although this remains unproven.

There is a record of Robert Page, aged thirty-three years, and his wife Lucy Page, aged thrity years, being examined on 11 April 1637, preparatory to leaving England, as "being desirors to pass into New England to Inhabit." They came with their three children, Margaret, Susanna, Francis, and two servants, William Moulton aged twenty years, and Anne Wadd, aged fifteen years.

They moved to Hampton, NH in 1639 where he was a selectman for six years. He represented the town in the General Court of Massachusetts for two years and was at one time marshal of the old county of Norfolk. He built a sawmill on Taylor's River in 1656. He served on several town committees and was one of the deacons of the church.

This is an important name in New Hampshire, Having been among the earliest English names planted within the limits of the present state, and also having been borne by distinguished citizens down through the generations to the present time.

• (I) Robert Page and his wife Margaret lived in Ormesby, in the country of Norfolk, England, Where they died.
• (II) Robert, son of Robert (I) and Margaret Page, was born about 1604, in Ormesby, England, and was there married, his wife?s name being Lucy. This is shown by the record of their examination preparatory to their leaving England, April 11, 1637, when his age is given as thirty-three years and hers as thirty. They had three children: Francis, Margaret and Susannah, and two servants: William Moulton, aged twenty years, and Anne Wadd, Fifteen years, and were ?desirous to passé into New England to inhabit.? In 1639 Robert Page settled in Hampton, New Hampshire (then Massachusetts), and received a grant of ten acres of land for a house lot, abutting on the meetinghouse green on the south and on the other lands of his on the north. It was between the house lots of William Marston on the west and Robert Marston on the east, and this land continued to be occupied by his descendants down to the sixth generation. For six years Robert Page served as one of the selectmen, and for years represented the town in the general court of Massachusetts. He was at one time marshal of the old county of Norfolk. He also served on various committees for transacting business of the town from time to time. In 1660 he is on record as one of deacons of the church, and from the death of his colleague in 1671 to his own death, September 22, 1679, he appears to have been the only deacon. His wife died November 12, 1665, aged fifty-eight years. Their children were: Margaret, Francis, Susannah, Thomas, Hannah, Mary and Rebecca. Robert Page, the immigrant, with wife Lucy, four of his children and two hired servants, William Moulton and Lucy's sister, Ann Ward, emigrated to America in April 1637 from Yarmouth on the ship Rose; at which time he was 33 and Lucy 30 years of age. They arrived in Boston on 8 June. After spending 1637-9 in Salem, Mass., they settled in Hampton, NH, where they were among the original settlers. From the records in Hampton we learn that he was one of the most active, energetic and influential men in town. He was elected a member of the first board of selectmen, and again in 1647, 1652, 1655, 1659, 1667 and 1670. He was a member of the general assembly in 1657, and again in 1668.

He was also marshall of the old county of Norfolk (Colonial Massachusetts), in which Hampton was then included. He was granted the privilege, by a vote of the town, of building the first saw-mill, which he was required to do within a year, but by reason of his being engaged in constructing a parsonage the time was extended to two years.

In 1659, when 76 persons were taxed, Robert Page's tax was the highest, and amounted to one twentieth of the whole sum. A committee was appointed to assign to each person the seat in which he was to sit [in church], and a penalty was attached for violation of the order. The people were seated in accordance with their social position and standing in the community. The front seat was considered the most honorable place. In this seat Robert Page and a few others were placed on one side, while to their wives was allotted the front seat on the opposite side. Mr. Page was the only deacon of the church for more than 20 years, and was succeeded in that office by his son, Francis.

Notwithstanding the many offices which he filled, and the multiplicity of business which he performed, he was unable to write his name and always made use of a mark for a signature, and a late town clerk of Hampton gave it as his opinion that the mark was uniformly made with the left hand [NEHGR 26:76 and 141:120].

Robert was the first of the Page name in Hampton, NH. The record of their examination, 04/11/1637, preparatory to leaving England gives his age as 33 and hers as 30. They with 3 children (Francis, Margaret, and Susanna) and 2 ervants (William Moulton aged 20 and Ann Wadd aged 15 years) "were desirous to passe into New England to inhabitt". He settlet in Hampton in 1639 having received a grant of 10 acres of land for a house lot, lying between the house lots of William Marston on the west, and Robert Marston on the east, abutting on the meetinghouse green, on the south and other land of his to the north.

Robert's birth & baptismal records have been lost. He was to inherit the family homestead in England but choose to migrate to New England. When he migrated in 1637, his license to emigrate lists him as 33 years old, his wife as 30 with 3 children. He was a husbandman & master carpenter and acquired considerable property in Hampton, NH.

The Pages were first at Salem but were in Hampton by the second summer. Hampton (New Hampshire) was then, and until 1679/80, a part of Massachusetts. Robert became a freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony May 18, 1642, was a selectman of the town eight times in the period 1644-1671, built a sawmill at Taylor's River in 1656, and was a representative to the General Court in 1657 and 1668. He was a marshall of the county of Norfolk, and deacon in the church 1660 until his death. His wife Lucy died November 12, 1665, aged fifty-eight, and he died September 22, 1679, aged seventy-five.

His will was dated September 9, 1679 and named sons Francis and Thomas, daughters Mary Fogg, Margaret Samborne, Rebecca Marston, Hannah Dow, and many grandchildren. These included the children of his daughter Margaret and her first husband, William Moulton:--Joseph, Benjamin, Robert, Hannah, Sarah "now Sarah Haines," Ruth and William. The list of Moulton children is the same as in their father's will, fifteen years before, with the exception of Mary, who died July 27, 1664, shortly after her father died, and with the addition of William, who had been born after his father's death.
