After the death of his 1st wife, Hannah Ashton, Dr. James Steptoe married the widow of William Aylett, Elizabeth Eskridge Aylett, in 1745. William Aylett's first wife was Ann Ashton, Hannah's sister.
One of Hannah's daughters was Anne Steptoe Allerton Washington. Anne was the 4th of 5 wives of Samuel Washington, brother to President Washington.

D., (4--3), of "Homany Hall," Westmoreland Co., Va., b. 1710; d. about 1778; a staunch supporter of the Established Church, and a Vestryman of Cople Parish; a much beloved physician and an influential citizen; he m. (first) Hannah Ashton; (second) about 1745, Elizabeth (Eskridge) Aylett, wid. of Col. William Aylett, and dau. of Col. George and Rebecca(Bonum) Eskridge, of "Sandy Point." (The descendants of Col.
