Biography
On 20 August 1746, John Lynn and “his three sons” were listed among the tithables [taxables] for land lying somewhere between the Augusta County Court House and Tinkling Spring. [Chalkley, Lyman : "Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia", Rosslyn, VA (1912), v. 1, p. 20]
On 18 September of the same year, John Lynn, Jr. was a witness for John Lynn. Unfortunately, Chalkley does not provide details of the document. [Chalkley%E2%80%99s, Ibid., v. 1, p. 22]
John Lynn served on an Augusta County jury on 20 February 1746 [1747]. [Chalkley%E2%80%99s, Ibid., v. 1, p. 26]
John Lynn and other inhabitants of North River and Picot [now, Peaked] Mountain petitioned on 18 May 1749 for a new road from John Man's smithshop on the south side of Peaked Mountain, eastward to John Migard's [Wigard%E2%80%99s] joining to the mountain road, and westward from the smithshop to the Stone Meeting House, joining to the Court House Road. [Chalkley%E2%80%99s, Ibid., v. 1, p. 20]
Regrettably, "Irish Dr. John Lynn of Augusta" was sued by "Irish Dr. William Lynn of Fredericksburg, Virginia", the case being filed in Augusta County Court for November 1751 [Chalkley, Ibid., v. 1, p. 305]. Since some genealogists question Dr. William Lynn's character, it is important to note that he was not the only person to take Dr. John Lynn to court.
On 17 June 1752, John Lynn and Margaret Lynn sold to John Black 300 acres in Beverley Manor, Augusta County [Chalkley%E2%80%99s, Ibid., v. 3, p. 304]. The family subsequently moved from Augusta County, as reported in County Court for August and part of November 1752 in the case of "Wright vs. Linn": "Dr. John Linn had left the County, 1752." [Chalkley%E2%80%99s, Ibid., v. 1, p. 307].
It is believed that John went to North Carolina, as did his three sons.
