Dr. Michael Dwinnell, Jr, was a large property owner in Topsfield and he claimed to be the first physican ever recorded in Topsfield, and a chirurgeion, although his previous medical studies were unknown. As a citizen, he served on the Jury of Triels and on "ye Grand Jury", as a selectman, for parambulating with Wenham Last Spring, and as an "Enspector of the Clay Ground".

He claimed to have had seven wives, but genealogists have been able to document only five of them. Among his marriages were Hannah Cove on September 27, 1692, in Salem, Essex County, Massachusettes, Elizabeth Fiske on December 10, 1724, in Topsfield, Masschusettes, and Mary (Shaw) Balch, widow of Cornelius Balch, on February 1, 1753 in Topsfield.
