About Edith Mary Buchanan
Edith Mary Adams was baptised at St Barnabus Church, Braddan, Isle of Man, on 15 April 1869 [original record viewed online at www.imuseum.im on 30 Dec 2018] where her parents were named as James and Anne Adams of Douglas, James being Principal of the Middle School.
At 21 she was one of the first women to receive a degree at the University of New Zealand in Auckland. [Reported as receiving a diploma of M.D. in the Wanganui Herald, Wednesday 8 September 1890].
We learn in a letter from her sister-in-law Martha Buchanan [see under media tab] that Edie and her husband were not together for Christmas 1931. He was out sailing in his yacht Rainbow, while on Christmas day Edie, with her sister and Martha, visited daughter Elaine at her seaside flat about four miles from Devonport.
