Biography
Birth & Parents
Edward Wing, son of Edward Wing & Sarah Tucker, was probably born 27 Jul 1727 in Sandwich, MA (although in some accounts he is said to have been born in Dartmouth, MA). [1] Genealogist Josephine C. Frost in The Haviland Genealogy" wrote that he was born 1720 in Sandwich. [2] Marriage
Edward married first in Dartmouth, MA to Content Wood. [2] "His first wife, named Content, was of the Wood family in Dartmouth, and was born 9th month, 7, 1723. At an early period (before 1754) he removed to "Nine Partners" in Dutchess County, New York. His wife died there in giving birth to twins, and according to the records of the Monthly Meeting at Obling, the infant children were taken into the families of Friends." [1] Josephine C. Frost in The Haviland Genealogy also states that Content died giving birth to twins but doesn't name them specifically, instead she states they had only two sons: Thomas and Russell (perhaps mistaking Thomas for the twin. However Conway Wing in The Genealogy of John Wing states that Russell had a twin Abraham T., and then Thomas was an earlier child, and also says that another son, William, died young.

Life
Edward "was a saddler and harness maker." [2] Edward Wing and his brother Abraham were leaders of a group of members of the Society of Friends who first settled the area of Queensbury, NY, in 1762, in what is now known as Warren County. [4] About this time (1785) the first place of worship in town, a log meeting house, was built by the Society of Friends on the south side of Half-way Brook, adjoining the west side of the road leading to Dunham's Bay. (this is currently the corner of Bay and Quaker Roads where the Old Quaker Burying Ground is located). Here too was kept the first school in town, and here was where the first burial ground, where the fathers of the town and their first born rested undisturbed by the shrill cry of the panther, or the nightly long drawn howl of the predatory wolf. [5]

On March 12, 1772 Albany County was split into three parts and Queensbury became part of Charlotte County which was named for Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, queen-consort of King George III of England.
