Some index references to her baptism identify her as the the daughter of Elizabeth Kennedy but the record itself does not mention her mother. It reads as follows: "Elisabeth Anne Daughter lawfull to the honourable Sir John Cathcart of Carleton Baronet born & baptised the 26 Novr". Marriage
Elizabeth Cathcart married John Cathcart, merchant in Greenock. The marriage was booked at Dailly in Ayrshire on 10 September 1782 and at Greenock in Renfrewshire the following day. Having been thrice proclaimed, as was required by law, they were married on 16 September 1782, probably at Carleton in Dailly parish. The marriage record at Greenock reads as follows: "John Cathcart mercht. in this parish and Elizabeth Cathcart daughter to Sir John Cathcart of Carletoun were booked in order to marriage". [National Records of Scotland, Marriage Register for Greenock West in Renfrewshire, 1698-1819, reference OPR.564/3/4] The marriage record at Dailly reads as follows: "Mr. John Cathcart Mercht. in Greenock & Miss Elisabeth Cathcart daughter lawful to Sir John Cathcart of Carlton Baronet had their banns inrolled in order to marriage Septr 10th were thrice proclaimed & married Septr. 16th".
