Family
It appears that William Payne is the William Payne who came to New Haven to take over the investment of Winthrop and others, when Winthrop became the leader of the Connecticut colony. Elizabeth Payne was evidently born in New Haven, 6 March, 1648. She married Thomas Sanford 11 October, 1666, in New Haven, CT. Thomas Sanford was born December 1644, in New Haven; his parents were Thomas Sanford and Sarah Meadows.
They were the parents of 10 children:

Note: Another Elizabeth is in Dedham Massachusetts having children with her husband, Hunting, at the same time Elizabeth Payne Sanford is in New Haven having her ten children. For the other Elizabeth who married Hunting, go to the town records of Dedham, MA for her marriage and the series of births attributed to her. Her father may be Thomas Paine.
