Mitchell is an English/Scottish name, meaning "descendant of Michael, as in the archangel, one who is God-like, a large man"
Elizabeth Mitchell was born in Plymouth Colony in about 1629, the daughter of Experience Mitchell and Jane Cooke, and granddaughter of Francis Cooke, of the "Mayflower". See Volume 12 of the "Mayflower Families Through Five Generations" for full detail on Francis Cooke and his descendants, including James Washburn and his son Moses Washburn
John and Elizabeth were among the original settlers of what is referred to today as "Old Bridgewater". They settled in the area that is today the central portion of the town of Bridgewater. "Old Bridgewater" was officially incorporated in 1656.
Elizabeth died between 1681 and 1684. She died before her father, and thus not mentioned in his will. When and where exactly is not known, and neither is her place of burial.
