Elva Luella Johnson

Elva was the sixth of nine children born to Ashield Mott and Martha Jane Capes. She was 9 years old when her mother died in April of 1902. It is not known the circumstances that resulted in her oldest brother, Ira, being awarded guardianship of his younger siblings on May 14, 1903. Ira and his wife cared for the siblings while at the same time raising their own family.

On 27 November, 1917, Elva married Harry M. Johnson. She was two years older than him and the union was initially not favored by his parents. Six months after their marriage, Harry left for World War 1, leaving her with their newborn son. She and Harry had four (4) sons, Myron, Richard, Robert and Harry Jr. She was a homemaker and had a large garden and orchard. She liked to crochet and embroider. She died as a result of cancer of the spinal cord.
