About Frederick Wienholt
Fred's birth and baptism are recorded in a red leather pocket book kept by his mother (which has come down the family) which lists the births of all 10 siblings. He was born on 13 October 1818 at Ryde, Isle of Wight, and baptised at Cowes.
Extract from an article by Jean Buchanan about John Birkett Wienholt, in the 'Carmarthenshire Antiquary' Vol XXXVIII 2002 - "...there was one [brother] who remained at Laugharne. This was the genial and much-loved uncle Fred, JP for Carmarthenshire, Mayor and twice Portreeve of Laugharne, and generous benefactor of both the church and the Township. He built the Infants' School (now the library) in 1875; the Wienholt crest can be seen in relief on the gable end. He married Mary Abra Hughes Skyrme of Island House in 1858 and thereby became a substantial landowner. They had no children. He died in 1881 and was outlived by Mary Abra. He is buried in the family tomb in the churchyard at St. Martin's."
There is a stained glass window to his memory in St Mary's Church, Laugharne (see media for photo).
