Biography

George Booth was born 1679 (per findagrave) in Charles City County. He was the son of Thomas and Anne Leach Booth. His father died in 1686 leaving George and his three siblings orphans. After Thomas died, his mother Anne married Philip Thomas in 1687 who became guardian for siblings Thomas and Anne. (There is a profile of Phillip Thomas b. 1652 d.1730 of Charles City County, later Henrico County m. Elizabeth Lucy b. 1657 d. 1685) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Thomas-7456

In Charles City County, Virginia Court on 15 September 1693, George Booth, being orphan of Thomas Booth, was ordered bound to Stephen Samson, "who promises to teach him to read and write and to learn the trade of shoemaker and Tann. He is to serve Samson until, age 21 and at end of his time to get clothes, corn, cow, and calf and gun".

Anne Booth b.1677. At court, Charles City County, Virginia on 5 January 1690, p. 322, "Anne, orphan of Tho. Booth, dec'd, chooses her father-in-law (step-father) Phillip Thomas as her guardian and he is to possess himself of the orphan's estate and give security." At court on 5 June 1693, "Ann, one of the orphans of Tho. Booth, being about 16, makes her choice of John Cox, Jr., of Henrico Co. as her guardian." (John Cox was married to Lucy Wynne, daughter of Captain Thomas Wynne and Agnes Stith of Charles City County, Virginia) http://www.stithvalley.com/scottfam/stithfam/johnsks.htm https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wynne-31

Thomas Booth b.1681, his brother, an orphan, at request of Capt. Luellin (Llewellyn), is to be bound an apprentice til he is 21. Capt. Luellin (Llewellyn) to teach him to read and write and to be taught the mystery of a weaver and to deliver him at end of his term, corn, clothes, cow & calf and a gun." (Daniel Llewyllyn was married to Jane Stith, daughter of John Stith and Jane Gregory of Westover Parish, Charles City, Virginia)

https://llewellyn-genealogy.ghost.io/untangling-the-llewellyn-famil... http://www.stithvalley.com/scottfam/stithfam/johnsks.htm George Booth, first mentioned, in Surrey county, 1714. His son, George, 1140 acres on Sappony Creek. 1746. There was also a son (or brother), Thomas Booth. who married Dorcas-, and had Amy, born 1728 (Bristol Parish Register).

Mary Booth b.1683. At Orphan's Court, Charles City Co, VA, on 18 September 1695 (pg 589), "Stephen Samson to take care to retreive Mary, an orphan of Thomas Booth, late of the county, dec'd, who is removed to Henrico County, and if need be, address himself to that court, that her estate be secured there, if she is not returned to this county." On 3 October 1695, Mary, one of the orphans of Thomas Booth, to be bound apprentice to Stephen Samson.

He married Mary Malone of Sussex County.

George Booth was business partners with his neighbor Nathaniel Malone. On 19 September 1721 Nathaniel deeded 100 acres of his Sappony Creek land to George Booth. Nathaniel's wife Mary Wynne signed her release to the land too. Their son William Malone married George's daughter Ann Booth. Booth was granted an additional 850 acres adjacent to Nathaniel on the southwest side of Stony Creek and on the north side of the Nottaway River, and on Sappony Creek adjacent to Thomas Thrower. On 29 March 1721 a survey shows Nathaniel and George owning 300 acres together on both sides of Turkey Creek.

The house of George Booth which stood on Sappony and Stony Creeks until 1946, was dismantled and reassembled in Fairfax County, Virginia near Mt. Vernon. The house is now called "Carlby" in Alexandria. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/192342626/mary-booth

He should not be confused with Booth, George ( - 1777) who married Mary Mason Wythe (1751-1814) - QA Richard Lee A4806 http://www.jamestowne.org/revolutionary-war-era-people.html

My Notes:
Humphrey Booth was removed as father because:

1. Humphrey Booth did not marry Phoebe Smith w/o William Hodgson & William Slaughter as previously profiled. He married Phoebe Burnett before 2 April 1690 https://www.colonial-settlers-md-va.us/getperson.php?personID=I1171...

Guardian bonds list his children as: Title Booth, Publication 1715. Gen. note Part of index to Essex County Wills and Administrations (1692-1800) Note p. 388-389. Gdn. bond for James, Phebe, William, & Margaret Booth rec. 16 Aug. 1715. Note Deeds & Wills No. 14, 1711-1716 (Reel 6)

2. Mary McBee was removed as wife of George Booth because Mary MCBEE was born about 1734 in King George County, Virginia. Mary was named as Mary Austin in her father's will. This name is also seen as Mockbee, Magbee, and Magby. Many databases online state that he is the William McBee born to Mathew & Jane Mockbee of Queen Anne's Parish in Prince George's County, MD on 22 Dec 1704. Subsequent research shows that particular William to have died, still in Prince George's County in 1736, leaving no issue. He must have never married. His half-brother Mathew was administrator of his estate. The Jane listed as wife of Mathew is often interpreted to be Jane Brock, daughter of Edward Brock. This is also wrong as Jane Brock was Mathew's first wife but was deceased and Mathew had married Jane Tyler, widow of John Joyce, and she was the mother of William in 1704 and his brother James, born 1702. Jane Brock's parents attempted to get guardianship of Mathew & Brock Mockbee who were indeed sons of their deceased daughter. All of this is well documented by Gwen Boyer Bjorkman on her WorldConnect file found here as of June, 2012: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=gwenbj&id=I1856

3. The findagrave memorial of Mary Malone Booth clearly establishes her as the wife of George Booth and mother of their children which is accurately laid out in this profile. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/192342626/mary-booth

4. From Mary Malone Booth's findagrave memorial information regarding the parentage of George Booth is presented. I have been able to corroborate the claim that he and three of his sibling were orphans of Thomas and Anne Booth. Anne Booth later married Phillip Thomas.
