GEORGE LOCHEAD

Cooper in Glasgow

is the eldest son of Walter Lochead, baxter in Glasgow. He was enrolled as a burgess of Glasgow on 8 March 1620 and as a guild brother there on 8 March 1621 [James R. Anderson, The Burgesses and Guild Brethren of Glasgow, 1573-1750 (Scottish Record Society, 1925), page 56].

Birth

A record of birth or baptism has not been identified for him but George Lochead was probably aged at least twenty-one years when he was enrolled as a burgess of Glasgow, and it seems quite likely, therefore, that he was born on or before 8 March 1600 [James R. Anderson, The Burgesses and Guild Brethren of Glasgow, 1573-1750 (Scottish Record Society, 1925), page 56].

Death

George Lochhead, cooper, burgess of Glasgow, died on or after 13 October 1646, the date upon which he made his last will and testament. He appointed his wife, Margaret Robb, to be his only executor and intomitter with his goods and gear. He left his wife all his goods and gear, including the plenishing of his house: "except ane pair of Sheitts & ane pair of blankets" which he left to his daughter, Janet Lochhead [National Archives of Scotland, H.N. General Register House, Edinburgh, Commissariot Records of Glasgow, Register of Testaments, reference CC9/7/30].
