About Gideon Quickel

The son of Michael & Catharine (Krone) Quickel, he married Susanna Shindle October 20, 1850, and fathered those children posted below. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Strinestown, Conewago Township, York County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 7" tall with brown hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he was drafted and mustered into federal service at Carlisle June 9, 1864, as a private with Co. B, 87th Pennsylvania Infantry. Although wounded at the third battle of Winchester (Opequon) on September 19, 1864, he remained with the regiment and honorably discharged with his company June 29, 1865.
