Hannah died during the crossing of the AtlanticOcean while immigrating.
Hannah Lissen, was born in Scotland, one of three daughters of Nicholas Lissen, owner of saw mills on the Exeter River and the Oyster River in New Hampshire.
On February 24, 1652, Hannah's father went to Boston, where the ship “The Sarah and John” had arrived with Scottish prisoners, who had been imprisoned by Oliver Cromwell, first in a deplorable "hole" and then on a prison ship, which sailed November 11, 1651, with 272 of these prisoners aboard.
The prisoners were sold into indentured servitude, "to pay for their passage." Nicholas, who was sympathetic to their Scottish cause, brought John MacBayne, Alexander Gordon and five others back to his saw mills to work for him.
In April 18, 1654, John married Nicholas Lissen's daughter, Hannah Lissen in Exeter, New Hampshire and was given twenty acres of land as dowry by his father-in-law.
Hannah and John had three children. Hannah died in childbirth of their third child. John eventually married Hannah's sister Margaret and had another 9 children.
Hannah is buried with John in the Congregational Church Burial Ground, in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire. A photograph of the headstone is available on Find A Grave.[1]
