Helen Semple was born 20 January 1904 in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire, England, daughter of John Semple and Jeanie Hampton (Sneddon) Semple. She is the sister of Henry "Harry" and George Sneddon Semple. She became known as "Nell" or "Nellie".

She married Jack Meikle and they had a daughter, Jean Meikle.

On 8 February 1940, Helen (Semple) Meikle died, aged 36 years, in Kirkmuirhill, South Lanarkshire, Scotland with interment in Stonehouse Cemetery, Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK.
