5th child of Henry & Ruth Pierson Brees/Breese

29 Aug 1753 BORN Basking Ridge, Somerset, NJ.
30 Sept 1753 another birth date (maybe this is christening date)

7 Jan 1774 age 21 MARRIED Ruth Pierson. Basking Ridge, Somerset, NJ.
They had 7 children and were married for 59 years.

(Brother SAMUEL Age 22 married Hannah, a sister to Ruth in 1780
Henry and Sam both married a 1st cousin once removed.
Remained Basking Ridge until 1785 when he moved to Morristown, NJ.
1809 moved to Genoa, Cayuga Co. NY.)

The J. Brees residence west of Barbors Corners Cemetery may be the
original home of Henry (1753-1835) and Ruth Pierson Brees1754-1833?)
Location near the Brees family burials would seem logical. J. Brees
would be Henry's son JOEL. (have grave pictures)

Fall of 1775- REV. soldier; 1-Served in NJ company of Militia commanded
by Capt Platt Bailey 1 yr. 2- in Capt Kilpatrick, Parker and Moffet til
Sept 1778 in Capt. Henry Luce's company 3- 2nd Battalion, NJ line. Also
in Capt. Stillwells company, 4th Reg. Hunterdon company and in state
troops-Continental army.. He was also in Sullivan's campaign under Col.
Israel Shreeve at the battle of Newtown, celebrating his 26th birthday
by aiding Gen. Sullivan's successful encounter against the Indians. Also
his wagon service was under Jonathan Pennington and John P. Brees (his
brother) of Elmira. 1780-1781-1783 in Militia. (have contents of

1775 in the fall at Basking Ridge he volunteered in the Militia Comany of
Cpt. Platt Bailey for 1 yr. term (have Info in pension papers)

Sep.1778 entered a company of waggoners and served 16 mos.

1780-82 again served being frequently called for short periods of time.

1780 "a" Henry was on tax list in New Brunswick, Middlesex, NJ (need)

1785 moved to Morristown, NJ

Feb 1786 JEREMIAH was born. (they were still in NJ)

3 June 1789 Henry, John, Samuel-3 sons of John Spencer/Dorothy Riggs
left NJ and migrated with their families to PA. John had 8 children,
HENRY had 7 and Samuel had 5 children plus their wives. They arrived in
WilkesBarre 11 June 1789. Because of the unsettled condition of land
titles in Wyoming Valley John continued on, stopping for a year or two
in Elmira and finally to Horseheads where he bought land and settled.

1789 son Joel was born in Horseheads, Chemung, NY.

1809 moved to Genoa, Cayuga, NY

1810 CENSUS-GENOA, CAYUGA, NY
Listed in Genoa are :JEREMIAH and a HENRY Breese (these 2 brothers were
sons of Henry) and living next to them a JOHN WOOD. (have)

1815 he acquired land in Genoa, (now Lansing), Cayuga, NY He was a
Revoultionary solder and eligible to purchase land..
1817 moved to Tioga, Co. where he resided and died there.

4 Sept 1832 age 78 applied for PENSION (Have copy of Pension Papers

  1. S12309). An American Rev. War soldier and Pensioneer.

DIED-2 JUNE 1835 age 82. BURIED in Family Cem. Barbours Corners,
Horseheads, Cayuga, NY (have web pic and grave pictures taken 9/2004)
Barbours Corner is located at the Junction of Old Ithica Road and Wygant
Road, Chemung, Chemung, NY. ( Obit: Geneva Gazette 24 June 1835)

June 1852 his dau. Susan (Brees) Young applied for his pension but she
was not granted any rights to his pension.

BIOGRAPHY: Henry Breese was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He
served in Baskingridge, Somerset Co. NJ in a company of Militia
commanded by Captain Platt Bailey for one year in the fall of 1775. He
then served in various parts of New Jersey under Captains Kilpatrick,
Parker and Moffat in the New Jersey Militia until September 1778. At
that time, there was a great need of waggoners and he joined the service
under Henry Southard and was engaged in transporting forage, clothing
and provisions for the Continental forces between Trenton NJ and
Kingsbridge NY. In 1785, he moved to Morristown NJ were he stayed until
1809. In that year, he moved to Genoa in Cayuga Co. NY. In 1817, he went
to Tioga County, NY where he resided at the time of his deposition at the
Elmira Courthouse regarding his Revolutionary War service.

10 June 1852 Dau. Ruth presented petition for attorney to handle her
claim to her father-Henry's estate in regards to Henry's Revolutionary
Bounty Lands. Steuben county, NY Court.
