About Henry Brownrigg
Henry Brownrigg of Rockingham, county Wicklow, Ireland, rose to the military rank of captain in the Army. He married Mary Alcock, daughter of Capt. Michael Alcock, on 5 Oct. 1753 and together they had six children. Two of their sons, Robert and Thomas, achieved the rank of General in the army and a third, Henry-Quin, rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Their first son, John Studholme Brownrigg, served with the 38th Regiment of Foot in New York City during the American Revolutionary War and in the early 1780s was the senior grand warden of Masonic Lodge 441 in NYC. During Sir. Robert Brownrigg's career he was appointed in 1811 the governor and commander-in-chief of the island of Ceylon, (Sri Lanka), where he became known as the conquerer of the kingdom of Kandy and was later created a baronet.
