About Henry Quin Brownrigg

Henry Quin Brownrigg, of Wingfield, was born in 1763, the fourth of six children of Henry Brownrigg of Rockingham, Wicklow, Ireland, and Mary Alcock, (daughter of Capt. Michael Alcock.) His parents were married on 5 Oct. 1753, according to Sir Bernard Burke's A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Peerage, Baronetage and The Privy Council, Knightage and Companionage, 1914, p314.

Brownrigg was stationed in Mysore, Karnataka, India on 28 Oct. 1795. The Army List of 1799 states he was a a captain with the 75th (Highland) Regiment of Foot and served in Seringapatam. He was later promoted to Major, per The Gazette.He was also listed on the Army List of Majors in 1803; deployed with the Honourable East India Company Army.

HQ Brownrigg was about 40 years old when he married Maria Bowles, then about 22, on 18 May 1803 in Bombay, India, The date of the marriage was attested to in a pension application Maria made after her husband's death in 1809. Maria Bowles was the 9th of 12 children of an Irish couple, George Bowles and Dorothea Hunt. Maria and Henry Quin Brownrigg had no children.

Brownrigg died at the age of 46, according to Maria's pension application, which states: he "died in London on the 13th of November 1809 from illness contracted by too long a residence in the East Indies." The pension application was approved in 1822. By then, Maria had married John Bradish, also a Lt. Col, on 19 Apr 1813.

Brownrigg was buried on 18 Nov 1809 at Westminister, Middlesex, England.

Maria lived on into her eighties and died on 28 May 1865.
