About Hubertus "Hubert" Weynand
Hubert was actually born in Butgenbach, Prussia (believe now modern Belgium) to parents Pierre (Petri) Weynand and Anne-Marie Quickels. He served in the Mexican War of 1846 from 1847-1848 in E12, U.S. Infantry. He was the husband of Angelina Ney.
Obituary Hondo Anvil Herald, July 28, 1906
Hubert Weynand died at his home near D'Hanis early Saturday morning, July 21, 1906. Mr. Weynand was one of the original pioneers of Medina Co. He was born Dec. 3, 1822 in Butgenbach, Prussia, and came to Texas in July 1846 and settled in D'Hanis. He served in the U. S. Army in the Mexican War. On the 6th of May 1850, he married Miss Angelina Ney who survives him. To them were born sixteen children, ten of whom are known to be living and attended the funeral. They are six sons and four daughters. Five children are dead and one son was taken captive by Indians at the age of 14 and never heard from since. The deceased was one of Medina County's oldest citizens, cause of death was old age. In May 1900, Mr. and Mrs. Weynand celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. He was a good citizen and honorable man, attested by the large attendence at his funeral. The Anvil Herald extends its sincere sympathy.
