On the top of each headstone there is a sentence written in an arc. The first letter of each line in the body of the text is written slightly larger and they spell out the name of the deceased. This is a well-known technique in Hebrew poetry, called acrostic.

Our mother has left us in our youth Our eyes will tear endlessly The crown was removed from our heads, ahh. Our heads are in the grave. Our pain is unbearable, oy. We are broken. We remain young orphans, ancient [unable to decipher this word]. Our mother’s days spanned the afternoon suns Up to the heavens, where her soul is bound with the living. May her soul be bound up in the bond of life.
