"I will now go back to the tenth child, Jacob, who married Ferdinando Thayer's daughter Huldah, and from here on the title of my paper, "The Thayer-Aldrich Tribe" applies. Jacob Aldrich and Huldah Thayer were married November 5, 1675 and in the main it will be upon their descendants that the remainder of this paper will treat. Jacob settled in Mendon on the Aldrich homestead which was bequeathed to him by his father, and while I do not wish to speak disparagingly of my own side of the house, I feel forced to admit that of the innumerable descendants of Jacob Aldrich and Huldah Thayer the Thayer blood has predominated. They had a family of twelve children, the most of whom grew to adult age. To six of their sons sixty-five children were born, and with eighteen children born to their daughters, eighty-three grand children are credited to Jacob Aldrich and Huldah Thayer.Marcus M. Aldrich, Mendon, MA, 1908

Jacob Aldrich was born in Braintree, MA on Dec 12, 1652, 10th child of George and Katherine Seald Aldrich. He married Huldah Thayer Aldrich on Nov 3, 1675 in Medfield, MA. Huldah was born on Jun 16, 1657.

Huldah was the daughter of Ferdinando Thayer (died Mar 28, 1712) and Hulda Hayqard Thayer (died Sep 1 1690).

Jacob and Huldah had 12 children: Jacob, Abel, Seth, Hulda, Rachael, Sarah, David, Peter, John, Moses (my lineage), Mercy and Rachael (the first Rachael died at the age of 9 on Nov 25, 1690, in Mendon, MA).

Jacob died on Oct 22, 1695, in Mendon.

One of the sons, Peter, (b. Oct 19, 1686) died in the French & Indian War.

Son Moses (my lineage) was born on Apr 1, 1690 and died on Sep 9, 1761 in Mendon, MA.

Jacob was a young boy when his parents moved the family to Mendon, MA. He was a young man when King Philip's War broke out. In 1676, he went with his family back to Braintree as Mendon was no longer safe. Once peace was restored he returned to Mendon.

He was his father's youngest son and inexplicably was made sole heir to his father's estate after the death of his father George's widow. There is no evidence that Jacob had a house lot of his own so it seems likely that he remained at home with his father and for that reason was made sole heir.

Jacob was a prominent man in town affairs as was his father before him. In 1694 he was assessor. At the time of his death at age 43, he was listed as a husbandman (farmer). Jacob was made overseer of his father George's will in which his father left him all his lands after the decease of Katherine, his mother.

He left no will. The settlement of his estate was probated in Boston, Suffolk, MA. They found it difficult to divide the several portions of his estate and finally sold it by order of the probate Judge in 1707 to his eldest son Jacob for the sum of £183 to pay his brothers and sisters ( saving the rights of their mother, Huldah ) . Jacob was to pay Abel, Seth, David, Peter, John, Moses, Huldah wife of Samuel Wilkinson, Sarah and Rachel £6, 1 shilling, 2½ pence one year hence with an interest "in interim of 6%." Upon the death of their mother, they were all to get a further sum of £3, 7½ pence.

Jacob was born 28 February 1652/53, in Braintree, Norfolk, Massachusetts, and married 25 June 1675, in Medfield, Norfolk, Massachusetts, Huldah THAYER, the daughter of Fernando and Huldah (HAYWARD) THAYER. She was born 16 April in 1657, in Braintree, Norfolk, Massachusetts and died after 1699. He died 22 Oct 1695, in Mendon, Worcester, Massachusetts.

The tenth child of George Aldrich, Jacob, married Ferdinando Thayer's daughter Huldah November 5, 1675. Jacob settled in Mendon on the Aldrich homestead which was bequeathed to him by his father. They had a family of twelve children, the most of whom grew to adult age. To six of their sons sixty-five children were born, and with eighteen children born to their daughters, eighty-three grand children are credited to Jacob Aldrich and Huldah Thayer."

3712. Jacob Aldrich {a,wa} was born 28 Feb 1652/53 (some have 1651/52) in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died 22 Oct 1695 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts. He is a son of George Aldrich [7424] and Katherine Seald [7425]. Jacob married 3 Nov 1675,

3713. Huldah Thayer {a,wa}. Huldah was born 16 Jun 1657 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died about 1707 in Massachusetts. She is a daughter of Ferdinando Thayer [7426] and Huldah Hayward [7427].

They were living in Mendon at the time of their marriage, but it was recorded in Milford, performed by a Justice of the Peace. They may have been evacuating the town at the time, as it was burned by Indians a few days later (King Phillip’s War). Their first three children were born during their “exile” in Braintree. They moved back to Mendon by 1680. After Jacob died, Huldah married Ebenezer Staples. Thayer {a} has Huldah married 13 Apr 1697 to Samuel Wilkerson, but that marriage should be her daughter Huldah [3712.4].

Jacob and Huldah are Congregational. Jacob died without a will, leaving an estate of 267 pounds (about $30,000 today). They had difficulty dividing the estate, so the farm was sold to oldest son Jacob for 183 pounds.

Jacob and Huldah had twelve children:

3712.1. Jacob Aldrich (1676 MA - 1753) had descendants and is expanded below.

3712.2. Abel Aldrich {wa} was born 27 Jan 1677/78 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts. He is missing from source {a}, and may have died young.

3712.3. Seth Aldrich (1679 MA - 1737 MA) had descendants and is expanded below.

3712.6. Sarah Aldrich was born (1683 MA - ) had descendants and is expanded below.

3712.7. David Aldrich [1856] (1685 MA - 1771 MA) and Hannah Capron are direct ancestors, separate page.

3712.8. Peter Aldrich (1686 MA - 1748 MA) had descendants and is expanded below.

3712.9. John Aldrich (1688 MA - 1750 MA) had descendants and is expanded below.

3712.10. Moses Aldrich (1690 MA - 1761 MA) had descendants and is expanded below.

3712.11. Mercy Aldrich {wa} was born 17 Feb 1691/92 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts, and died 18 Mar 1692/93 in Mendon Massachusetts, age 1. (Source {wa} has Mercy born 27 Feb 1691/92 and died in 1707).

3712.12. Rachel Aldrich {a,wa} was born 27 Dec 1694 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts. She married 13 Mar 1716, her cousin Samuel Thayer [7426.7.1], son of Samuel Thayer and Mary Bass. Rachel and Mary are first cousins, both descending from Ferdinando Thayer and Huldah Hayward. They joined the Shakers, and had no children.
