Holesov, 1760: Jacob KNOPFMACHER

In 1775, he leased a distillery in Kelc. From Max Preston: “We found a 1775 lease of the [Kelc] distillery to Jakob Knopfelmacher (son of Moyses), and a 1786 lease of the tannery to the same man.”

“Jacob Knopfelmacher”: Signed the list of residents with civil names – 17 Nov 1788

Holesov death record: “Jakob Knopflmacher, age 59, d. household #22, 4 Oct 1798”. Cause of death: heart failure.

A document dated 4 Oct 1798 [the day of his death] references him as “Jakob Moises Knopfelmacher”, and seems to direct that Jacob’s residence in Holesov be maintained for the sake of the “wittow” [widow]. It is witnessed by Jacob’s oldest son, Markus Knopfelmacher, and by a son-in-law, Joachim Reiss. The document is signed in Hebrew by a large number of Holesov residents. Another document, dated the same day, names all of the heirs: his widow Jached; his eldest son Markus; his next two sons, Joachim and David; and his two sons-in-law, Bernard Eisler and Joachim Reiss. Not mentioned is his son, Isaac, who was apparently deceased.
